PRESENTATION OF THE AFRICAN BOUBOU FOR WOMEN
The traditional boubou for women is a garment that extends to the ankles and features long, flowing sleeves. This type of loose-fitting garment was originally a long, buttoned dress, primarily worn by men in the Middle East. Boubou were formerly made of silk or cotton and often had a sash or sash around the waist and elbows or longer sleeves. The Topkapi Palace in Istanbul has an astonishing collection of these boubous sewn in rich and luxurious fabrics. At the time, wearing a boubou was considered a privilege of notables and those who occupied an important place in society. It was considered a valuable and prized piece of clothing that was given to important officials
But things changed over the years, and the boubou went from a luxury item of clothing to something that was only worn by poorer people, as well as by traders in the 19th century ! That said, boubous have regained their place on the fashion scene in recent years (although one cannot say that they have never gone out of fashion) and are increasingly popular, satisfying both the taste of women who want chic and refined formal outfits and women who are attracted to more casual appearances; but who don't want to look like a tomboy.
